Tips to Build Strong Maths Foundation in Students

Knowing maths makes students feel empowered and satisfied. It makes their lives more comfortable. It can also help them to perform more tasks related to their daily routine. Having a good grasp of maths is an advantage.

1) Understand the concept: Students are taught how to solve the problem, and they should start solving the problem by understanding the concept behind it. Before solving any question, students must know its concept. They must read the theory part of maths and then go for the exercise problems. If they want to explore more about a particular topic, searching the internet is the best idea. It will give them all the necessary details that they are looking for.

2) Enjoy learning maths: Try to think out of the box beyond the curriculum topics. Correlate things with daily life examples. Do some extra fun activities that involve maths. Try to visualise mathematics concepts. Ask yourself why we are solving these problems, their applications etc. It will help find a better solution to the maths problems and understand it effectively.

3) Be curious: Always be interested in learning new things. Don’t allow your curiosity to die inside you. Always ask questions to your teachers if you have any doubt. Don’t be shy or afraid of it. Discuss the topics with your friends.

4) Try different methods of solving a particular question: Just solving the question through one method taught in the class will not help students master mathematics. They must try to figure out other possible ways of solving the same problem. This will increase their aptitude solving skills.

5) Practice, practice and practice: The best way to master maths is to practice it. Students must solve different types of mathematical problems. They must start with the basic book. For example, Maharashtra Board students should practise exercise questions from Samacheer Kalvi 10th books.

Mathematics can’t be mastered in a day or a month. It requires continued effort and practice.  It is like learning to play a new game. Students wouldn’t know how to master it until they start playing it. So, have patience and be consistent with your studies. Gradually, students will see an improvement in themselves, and they will start loving the subject of maths. Students should be well-versed with maths concepts if they want to pursue a career in engineering.
